Viet United continue dominance, breeze through FC Finesse

Viet United continued their win streak, making it 8 straight wins as they defeated FC Finesse 3-1 in the 11th game of the season for both teams.

Goals from Phonesavanh Phoutthavongsa, Hung Nguyen and Vy Trinh were the deciding factor as Viet United continued their goal of finishing as the league’s best team. Throughout 11 games, the team has totaled 31 points, the 2nd most goals scored (85) and the 2nd least goals allowed (20).

The opposition, FC Finesse, have fallen into a dog fight for a potential 3rd place finish. They sit at an even five wins and five losses with one additional draw (16 points). Their recent form and last five games have been split with two wins, two losses and one draw.

In typical fashion, Phoutthavongsa opened up the scoring in the 4th minute. A quick and clinical attack by Viet United resulted in the ball being played into the box to an unmarked Phoutthavongsa who took a touch before scoring the game’s first goal.

Four minutes later, Viet United scored again to double their lead, the goal coming from Nguyen. Similar to the opening goal, Viet United strung a few quick passes together to get a look on goal. Nguyen made a run to have a clear path for a goal.

After being on their heels for the beginning moments of the match, FC Finesse were able to escape the pressure following a Viet United goalkeeper error. A clearance by the keeper was sent straight into the chest of Wadawasina, leading to nothing but an open net.

Chances came left and right for both teams as the offensive star power of this match didn’t disappoint. FC Finesse had a free kick in the 19th minute but the shot was sent high and wide of the crossbar.

Viet United led 2-1 at half-time which could have easily been a tie game or larger lead. These two teams combined for a scorching 136 goals across 11 games so it’s no surprise chances were everywhere.

The second half was a complete 180 of the first half as FC Finesse had the majority of the chances and dominance but none of them were put away.

FC Finesse would begin rue those chances in the 49th minute as Viet United scored their 3rd goal to all but guarantee the win. Trinh made no mistake and slotted a free kick into the tip right corner with virtually the last meaningful kick of the game.

Heading into the last game of the season, Viet United find themselves on top of the league and still undefeated. Anything but a loss against Brazcouver next week will clinch a first placed finish for them.

With GI and Friends having played all 12 of their games already, FC Finesse are two points behind them with a game less played. A win next week means they will finish 3rd.
