Twente Benson bounce back with 4-0 win

In the 2nd matchweek of the season, FC Twente Benson defeated Cuventus 4-0.

After an abysmal first week display, FC Twente Benson were able to bounce back with a convincing win over Cuventus. Last time out, they lost 12-1 to MFC Dynamo and became the only team to concede double digit goals. Cuventus beat the UBC Individuals 12-1 in the first game and looked to be one of the stronger teams in the league.

Four different players got on the scoresheet for Twente Benson in the win. Donelly opened up the scoring for the game in the 8th minute. Twente Benson quickly escaped their own half following a failed Cuventus attack which led to a counter attack. The goalkeeper was found wandering which opened up the net for Donelly to easily score.

Chances were abundant for Twente Benson following the opening goal. They were shut out by the post and the keeper while some shots were put wide. They finally put one of those chances away when Nicholson doubled the lead in the 20th minute. A quick switch in play allowed Nicholson to freely dribble away from the defense into the opposition half before scoring from a near impossible angle. Nicholson’s goal marked the end of Twente Benson’s first half domination as they went into the break leading 2-0.

To begin the 2nd half, Cuventus were looking for any sort of retaliation and redemption but there was none to be found. FC Twente Benson still had the lion share of possession and chances while their defense and goalkeeper down the prospect of any Cuventus attack.

In the 33rd minute, Kerins scored Twente Benson’s 3rd goal following a low, strong strike from outside the penalty area. Kerins reacted quickly to squeeze the ball into the net with the goalkeeper and defense helpless to get a body in front. The icing on the cake was brought by Nolan in the 49th minute to seal the win for Twente Benson. A quick 2-on-1 in the final moments of the game led to Nolan having a wide open net and the win in front of him.

FC Twente Benson were able to put their putrid start behind them and bounce back with a win. Not by the largest of margins but a convincing win by them to give themselves some much needed confidence and momentum for the weeks to come. Cuventus did not play particularly badly as they had plenty of chances but no player had the accuracy to put away a single one of them. They have shown with their opening day win that they can be dominant but tonight was not one of those days.
