Strathcona Primo victorious in another win

Strathcona Primo handed Tapatios FC their second loss of the season, defeating the side 11-5 on Friday night.

After a strong run to begin the season, Tapatios FC were finally beaten for the second time with an underhanded roster. The action began in the 7th minute when Strathcona broke through Tapatios’ defense, with Spencer Ng finishing the play and sending the ball into the back of the net for a quick 1-0 lead. Eight minutes passed in the first half before the next goal was scored, and it was Tapatios leveling the game. Despite some tight defending from Strathcona, Tapatios were left with an open net, and there was nothing Strathcona could do when Luis Vicente scored into the empty net. The deadlock stood for just three minutes when Matthew Naidu glided through the Tapatios defense to retake the lead for Strathcona. After going a goal down, Tapatios kept the attack coming with several shots that were saved and shots that missed the target. Their persistence paid off, and after a foul, the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty. Bryan Palos made no mistake and drilled the ball into the top right corner. The same pattern continued with Strathcona immediately equalizing when Naidu notched his second goal of the game just a minute later. On the brink of half-time, Nathan Tesan cut off a Tapatios pass and ran towards goal for a tidy finish to give Strathcona Primo a 4-2 heading into the break.

The second half started just as the first half ended with Strathcona Primo extending the lead. In the 26th minute, Strathcona sent the ball down the line and it was Marco Consiglio running down the wing, ending the play by sending a rocket of a shot into the roof of the goal. Five minutes later, Strathcona were back on the attack with Naidu leading the line again. The Tapatios defenders couldn’t keep up with Naidu’s pace before he drilled the ball into the net for his hat-trick. Naidu and Strathona weren’t done there as Naidu was back on the doorstep for Strathcona’s seventh goal in the 33rd minute.

Tapatios finally ended the cold spell, scoring their third goal of the game in the ensuing minute. It was some nifty build-up play from the team in yellow, leading to Palos getting on the board for his second goal. However, the goal wouldn’t mean much as Strathcona Primo scored their eighth goal of the game right after. Matteo Flex pushed a Tapatios defender off the ball and let off a shot from a long way out to score a miraculous goal. Palos added another goal to score his hat-trick in the 37th minute, but it was purely constellation. From a corner in the 37th minute, Oskar Dehlic got to the ball first and sent it into the net to extend the lead to six. It didn’t matter how many goals Strathcona Primo scored as the final result was never in doubt, finishing 11-5 in Strathcona’s favor.

Another dominant display by Strathcona is something we’ve seen all season. With this win, they’ll keep sole possession of second place as they continue to hunt down Romania FC in first place. With such a small roster for this game, it was near impossible for Tapatios FC to win. Hopefully next week, they’ll have more players and more goals.
