Strathcona Primo score 12 in first win of the season

After a loss in the first game of the season, Strathcona Primo bounced back with a dominating 12-1 win over Brewventus.

This was as one-sided a game could be, with Strathcona dominating every part of the game. Five different scorers were on the scoresheet for Strathcona’s 12 goals, including four goals for Matteo Flex and Richard Culleton. From the opening jump, all of the attack came from Strathcona. Once Matteo Flex got the scoring started in the third minute, Strathcona Primo couldn’t seem to stop. The Brewventus defense was left exposed and a bold chip from Flex opened up the scoring. Oskar Dehlic added to the lead in the sixth minute, drilling a shot into the left side of the net. Brewventus’ lackluster defense only invited more opportunities for Strathcona to score as Brewventus could rarely leave their own half. In the 8th minute, Richard Culleton made a terrific run towards the net to create space, and he finished off a pass from Flex to extend the lead to 3-0. Less than a minute later, a corner kick was played into the box and Matthew Naidu got one touch, and then another, before scoring on his second attempt.

Luckily for Brewventus, it wasn’t all bad in the first half. They were able to relieve some of Strathcona’s pressure and begin a three-on-two break of their own. Tanish Garg ran down the right side of the field, before receiving the ball, and then he blasted a shot, that was impossible to stop, into the roof of the goal. However, that would be the first and final attack for Brewventus’ as Strathchona came roaring back immediately. Two goals from Flex in eight minutes to secure his hat-trick, propelled the lead to 6-1. Culleton added one more before the half ended for Strathcona to take a six goal lead into the break.

Not much changed in the second half as Strathcona continued to pour on the attack. In the 35th minute, another scorer was added to the scoresheet when Keegan Chao let off a shot from just outside of the box, forcing the goalkeeper to extend as the ball found the back of the net. Brewventus slowed down Strathcona’s attack in the second half as their goals were much more spread out. However, that doesn’t mean Strathcona took their foot off the gas as Matthew Naidu was left uncovered on the left side of the goal to score his second goal of the game. Matteo Flex and Richard Culleton added three more goals in the closing minutes of the game for the final score of 12-1.

After blowing a significant lead in the first game, Strathcona Primo bounced back for a triumphant double-digit goal win. For Brewventus, they’ll look to quickly put this game in their rear-view mirror and recover in their next game.
