Strathcona Primo get first win over Coracran

Strathcona Primo FC have defeated Coracran FC 6-1 in the second matchweek of the season. After a 10-6 defeat in week one, Strathcona Primo bounced back with a dominant and convincing win.

The game began with both teams having chances to open the scoring but it was Samuel Harper for Strathcona Primo who would score first. He headed the ball forward to get away from the Coracran defender and hit the ball first time with his foot to strongly place it past the keeper’s grasp. In the 19th minute, Strathcona Primo doubled their advantage when they quickly turned a goal kick into a goal scoring chance. Matteo Flex put on some clever dribbling skills to get away from all defenders and put the ball over the goalkeeper. Six minutes later, Strathcona’s persistence and patience paid off when they got right to the front of the net at the brink of half-time. Nathan Tesan had an easy job of putting the ball away with a wide open net staring at him. Strathcona Primo led 3-0 heading into the break.

It was a cagey start to the second half with lots of fouls and missed chances with neither team being able to add to the scoresheet. It wasn’t until Flex got the second half goal scoring started in the 32nd minute when Strathcona made use of a quick 3-on-2 attack to extend the lead to four goals to nothing. Four minutes later, Gavin Theys added to the scoring with a goal right in front of the net for Strathcona Primo’s fifth.

In the 40th minute, FC Coracran finally got on the board when Victor Aguirre scored the team’s only goal. Coracran disrupted a Strathcona attack to initiate a counter attack of their own. Aguirre got to the ball before the keeper and struck the ball into the net. The game was sealed in the 49th minute when Tesan put the icing on the cake to secure his second goal and the win for Primo.

After a less than ideal start to the season, Strathcona Primo bounced back in the best way possible with a superior effort in game two. FC Coracran will look to build on something more positive next week, having now lost their first two games.
