Strathcona Primo crowned champions after season finale

Strathcona Primo FC are declared champions of the season after defeating Serbia United 5-1 in the championship game! After an exciting season that saw these teams occupy the top two places in the standings, the final showdown was a winner-take-all bragging rights game. 

Strathcona Primo and Serbia United played each other twice in the regular season, with Serbia United taking a win and the other ending in a 5-5 draw. In the first game of the season, Serbia United took a commanding lead in their 10-6 win. Following the devastating loss in the opening matchweek, Strathcona Primo went on an absurd run and won seven straight games. Their opening game was nothing short of a wake-up call as they wrecked through every opponent in the games to follow. They ended the season with a league-high 85 goals scored and league-low 29 goals conceded in ten games.

After Serbia United got off to a triumphant start in the season, only wins came their way. They went on a six game winning streak to begin the season, en route to their first place finish. They ended the season with just one loss and nine wins. Following a season that only proved Serbia United and Strathcona Primo as the two best teams, their matchup in the final was shaping up to be exhilarating. 

As the highest scoring team in the season, Strathcona Primo continued that heading into the final, scoring the game’s opener in the first minute. It was the first chance of the game and Strathcona Primo stormed into Serbia United’s half, with the ball eventually falling to Matthew Naidu for a simple finish. Following Strathcona’s goal, plenty of action came but goals were not plenty as the lead stayed at 1-0 going into half-time. 

Immediately following the break, Serbia United made a mark on the game, scoring in the 28th minute. They came out guns blazing to open the second half as Arden Mrdjen was allowed too much space so he drilled the ball off of the crossbar and into the goal to tie the game. The deadlock would not last long as Strathcona Primo came roaring back with two goals in the 29th minute and 30th minute. First, Devine rebounded a missed shot by sending along the ground and into the corner to restore the lead for his team. One minute later, Strathcona kept the attack coming and Anthony Page-Vincelli spectacularly dribbled through multiple opponents before smashing the ball past the goalkeeper. 

Two minutes later, Page-Vincelli was at the scene again, scoring after flicking the ball off of the post and into the net. In the 36th minute, Page-Vincelli wrapped up the scoring with his hat-trick as he clinched the title for Strathcona Primo. 

Following an excitement filled season, Strathcona reign supreme as the sole best team in the league, following a terrific season-clinching game. They preserved through every obstacle and stuck together as a team to earn the well deserved seasonal victory.
