Strathcona Primo edge past Brewventus in close contest

In one of the more tightly contested games of the season, Strathcona Primo took the three points over Brewventus, winning 3-1.

As they always do, Strathcona Primo started the game firing on all cylinders. Shots came left and right for them, until they finally made use of the pressure and took the lead in the 7th minute. Brewventus dropped too deep, allowing Oskar Dehlic all sorts of space to receive the ball and push into the opposition’s half. He made no mistake with his opportunity and fired the ball into the mesh of the goal for Strathcona to lead. Brewventus’ deficit would last for barely two minutes as surprisingly Brewventus scored to tie the game in the 9th minute. Throughout the first half, they applied pressure towards the Strathcona goal. They were awarded a corner, and a perfect ball was sent into the box, with Cameron Govender rising above everyone else to head in the equalizer. The remainder of the first half was a deadlock as both teams pulled off some miraculous saves. Both goalkeepers were on top form to keep the game at a 1-1 deadlock heading into half-time.

The second half began just how the first half did, with Strathcona Primo starting with all the momentum. Once the second half started, they smelled blood in the water and were ready to put the game to bed. From the second half kick-off, Strathcona came running down the wing, and the ball fell to Matteo Flex for him to score and re-gain the lead Strathcona was desperately searching for. Strathcona along with Brewventus traded back-and-forth punches, but the result was more saves or balls being hit over the bar. Brewventus had a fair amount of chances to score, and it ultimately cost them when Strathcona Primo extended the lead to two goals in the 42nd minute. Brewventus gave away the ball in their own half when they tried to create an attack. Instead, Oskar Dehlic picked up the ball and drilled it past the goalkeeper to secure the 3-1 win for Strathcona Primo.

It was a valiant effort from Brewventus to stay within contention of the game for so long, but Strathcona Primo proved their stamina and skill were better as they picked up another win. The player of the game goes to Marco Consiglio for making some outstanding saves and for denying Brewventus of ever taking the lead.
