Short-handed Unmeggables Rescue Point Against Brownies

At three goals a-piece, the first draw of the season has occurred between The Brownies and Unmeggable FC. After a hard fought football game, neither team could be separated.

Similar to The Brownies’ first game, one of their goals and an opposition goal came within a minute of each other. Within the first five minutes thanks to some wonderful dribbling from Alex Lee-Gilmore, The Brownies got on the board first to begin a 1-0 lead. However, less than a minute later that lead was quickly erased when Unmeggable FC took advantage of a corner and quickly got to the front of the net for John Lim to score his first.

In the 14th minute, Lee-Gilmore added to his own goal scoring total when he scored The Brownies’ second goal of the game to re-establish the lead. They quickly turned defense into attack and on the counter, the ball slid past the goalkeeper into the left side of the net. This game followed the theme of “anything you can do, I can do just as well” and that was evident in the 18th minute when Unmeggable FC tied the game at 2-2. Similar to The Brownies’ second goal, Unmeggable FC quickly dissolved a Brownie attack and caught the keeper off guard with a quick load driven shot for Lim’s second.

Just before half-time, Unmeggable FC made sure that they would hold the lead going into the break. The Brownies’ defense was caught idle, leaving Nakwon Choi open for a finesse finish. The lead would be 3-2 in favour of Unmeggable FC after 25 minutes of play.

In the second half, chances came left and right for both teams but it would be The Brownies getting the only goal of the second period of play. The ball was played precisely into the Unmeggable half and a string of passes found Rtvik Nambiar at the front of the net for an easily worked goal. The remainder of the half was filled with a plethora of opportunities for both teams to take the lead. There were many misplaced passes and shots put wide that both teams would live to regret when the final whistle was blown at a three goal deadlock.

For Unmeggable FC, this was an impressive result with a shorthanded roster. Despite the large task in front of them, their high level of teamwork helped them rescue a point. For The Brownies, maybe not an expected result but nonetheless, one point was salvaged.

Unmeggable FC 3-3 Brownies

Goals: Lim (6′, 18′), Choi (21′) – Lee-Gilmore (5′, 14′), Nambiar (40′)
