Serbia United Hit Double Digits In First Game

Serbia United cruised to victory in the opening match of the 2023 season with a 10-6 victory over Strathcona Primo. They established a clear gap in play, setting a high example for the teams to follow.

Serbia United jumped out to a quick lead with two goals in the opening three minutes. Stratchcona’s defense proved no match for their opponent’s fury as both Serbian goals were scored with little resistance from any defenders within a foot’s reach. One minute later, Strathcona answered back with a goal from an impossible angle with a Serbia United defender draped all over him. 

In the 10th minute, Serbia United started the beginning of their match-long dominance. Four goals were scored in as many minutes to push the lead to five within fifteen minutes of play. To start, the ball was expertly played from a goal kick and speed and finesse was used to drill the ball into the bottom left corner. They followed up with their third goal of the game with another simple but effective finish. A fantastic piece of dribbling put on by them ended with a shot that went off the post and in.

Serbia United’s terrific first half display was capped off by a patient, methodical finish. In the 16th minute, Strathcona took advantage of some idle defending by United with Strathcona players flooding the United half. The ball was passed cleanly and hit first time into the left side of the goal. Serbia United would lead 6-2 heading into the break.

In the 28th minute, Strathcona were awarded a free kick, much to the displeasure of the Serbia United sideline, but the chance was squandered, producing no real threat on goal. Strathcona would rue that missed opportunity when less than 60 seconds later, a ball was played across the field and calmly netted Serbia United’s seventh. Immediately following kick-off from the conceded goal, Strathcona breezed through Serbia’s defense to net their third goal. The shot effortlessly rolled past the goalkeeper and through the hole in the back of the net.

Serbia United wouldn’t let up as they continued their dominance throughout the latter stages of the second half. In the 36th and 38th minute, Serbia United extended their lead to six goals with a pair of goals. United swiftly disrupted an attempted attack which they quickly turned into an attack of their own with them being played cleanly onto goal for a simple finish. Two minutes later, United once again refused to let Strathcona exit their own half, resulting in another straightforward look right in front of goal. Serbia United’s final goal was scored in the 42nd minute with a sneaky finish that strolled into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Strathcona Primo wouldn’t go down without a fight, scoring the game’s final three goals. In quick succession, they scored three goals in the span of three minutes to close out the game. As Serbia United attempted to exit their half, the ball was played back strongly to the keeper but misplaced into the path of Strathcona. His job was easy as can be and calmly netted to make it 10-4. One minute later, Strathcona quickly turned defense into offense and the ball fell into his path for Strathcona’s fifth. To finish off the sixteen goal display, Strathcona scored a superb goal from a long way out, the ball passing through all defenders and teammates in its way.

This was a dominant and convincing win for Strathcona as their ten goals were the most scored by any team. For Strathcona despite the loss, there were plenty of positives for them to take going forward.
