Serbia United fend off late comeback to advance to final

Serbia United are advancing to the season final after defeating MFC Dynamo 11-6 in the first semi-final. In typical Serbia United fashion, they overpowered their opponents with plenty of goals, this time double digits.

This game contained nothing but goals, seventeen to be exact. Within the opening minute, both teams had already got on the board. First, it was Michael Stehlík for MFC Dynamo who opened up the scoring. He started in his own end and after not being closed down by the Serbia United defenders, he dribbled through the entire field and towards the net for a low-driven strike that found the bottom corner. Less than sixty seconds after MFC Dynamo’s goal, Serbia United answered back with the equalizer. The ball was played into the box and Bojan Samardzija’s falling-down strike miraculously went off the post and into the net. In the 5th minute, Serbia United were back on the attack. Their quick and fast style of play was too much for MFC Dynamo to handle as they passed the ball around with one touch from each player, ending with a tap-in for Luka Baljak.

Six minutes later, Serbia United doubled their lead when Sasha Vukovic made his way into some open space and beat the goalkeeper on the near side of the net. In the 13th minute, MFC Dynamo were awarded a penalty and Jan Fillo made no mistake putting the ball in the back of the net to make it 3-2. Serbia United restored their two goal lead in the 17th minute after some consistent offense ending with Milan Zivadinovic getting a last second touch on the ball to guide it into the net. Two minutes later, Serbia United added to the lead again with Baljak getting his second goal of the game.

Neither team would let up on their attack as MFC Dynamo scored their third goal in the 20th minute. After some stellar defending to keep Serbia United from scoring a sixth, they went straight on the counter attack with Bryn Davies leading the charge and sending a tidy finish into the bottom of the net. Just one minute after his first, Davies cut the lead to one after a strike close to the net. For Serbia United, Vukovic added one more goal before half-time. Similar to his first goal, he made use of not being closed down properly and guided the ball into the net. After a half filled with nothing but attacking play, Serbia United led 6-4.

As soon as the second half started, Serbia United continued their dominance, scoring in the 26th minute. Baljak was once again at the center of the scoring for another finish in front of the net. In the 28th minute, MFC Dynamo brought the deficit back to two goals after they quickly turned defense into offense as Sahib Suri took advantage of some bad positioning by the goalkeeper to score MFC Dynamo’s fifth goal.

Chances came left and right in the minutes that followed but it was MFC Dynamo again to get the next goal. The game’s first goal scorer was back on the scoresheet as the ball was played into the box for Stehlík to guide into the net. Serbia United added two goals in three minutes in the 37th minute and 39th minute as Bojan Samardzija and Arden Mrdjen scored to increase the lead to 9-6. In the 41st and 48th minute, Samardzija scored his hat-trick and his fourth goal of the game to clinch the win for Serbia United.

After an impressive regular season, Serbia United proved they deserved to be in the final after total domination against Serbia United. With this win, they punched their ticket to a winner-takes-all final against Strathcona Primo.
