Madrid and Benson split points, madrid gains first point of season

Pathetico Madrid and FC Twente Benson are both heading home with one point, having drawn their ninth game 4-4. This is the first draw of the season for any team which also means Pathetico Madrid have picked up their first point of the season.

Prior to tonight’s game, FC Twente Benson had scored 37 goals and they immediately added to that tally in this game. In the 4th minute, FC Twente Benson quickly made their way into the opposition half and Ronan Boyle was able to dribble through the defense before a low-driven shot was placed into the left corner. Six minutes later, FC Twente Benson continued to put their foot on the gas, resulting in extending the lead to 2-0. Three quick and wonderfully worked passes led to a cross goal pass for Tomas Nicholson to score a simple tap-in.

However, Pathetico Madrid weren’t behind for long as Kieran Patchell and Sean Hale scored goals in the 15th and 17th minute. The first goal was a rebuttal to their opponents’ play as Madrid’s quick one-two play led to a nice finish by Patchell. Two minutes later, the game was equalised when the ball was mistakenly given away by the Benson goalkeeper into the path of Hale. With no pressure from the defense, he had the easy task of blasting the ball into the net to equalise.

The game was only equal for a mere two minutes as FC Twente Benson re-took the lead courtesy of Murphy. He scored two goals in the span of four minutes to give FC Twente Benson a 4-2 lead. Both goals were evidence of his skill as they were both beautifully crafted. The first goal was a long and clinical strike that proved to be too much for the goalkeeper. The second, he made the most out of the goalkeeper out of position by curling the ball into the open side of the net. FC Twente Benson took the two goal lead into half-time.

Much like the first half, the first goal of the second half came fairly early. This time, in the 27th minute. Kieran Patchell scored his second goal of the game to cut the deficit to one. Once again, Patchell got himself into a great scoring position which made his task of scoring much easier. Following Patchell’s goal, FC Twente Benson had multiple chances to extend their lead but ultimately could not. Perhaps they would live to rue those misses as in the 38th minute, an unfortunate own goal was scored. In the final dozen minutes, both teams split the remaining chances but in the end they would be sharing the points.

Pathetico Madrid put in an admirable performance to record their first point and non-loss of the season. Hopefully this is a confidence booster and will result in them picking up more points to end the season. Despite the draw, FC Twente Benson is locked into 3rd place. Although, time is running out for them to achieve a better position.
