GI and Friends pick up 2nd straight win after scoring 13

GI and Friends and Average Joes, the two teams in action next, were neck and neck in the standings at 4th and 5th place, respectively. This game was a chance for either team to break away from the dogfight at the bottom of the table. GI and Friends had won just one of their first five games and Average Joes had yet to win since their 5-3 win over The Blue Pandas in the first game of the season. 

GI and Friends opened the scoring in the 2nd minute when Gholami easily slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Average Joes leveled the game in the 6th minute after Sewak took an Average Joes defender off the ball in his own penalty box to catch the keeper off guard and score Average Joes’ first goal of the game. Khorshidi gave the lead back to GI and Friends in the 11th minute after the goalkeeper fumbled a catch and dropped the ball into the net. Three consecutive goals in as many minutes from Dixon, Chaal and Antao added to GI and Friends’ advantage. Khorshidi’s 2nd goal of the game was the last tally of the 1st half for GI and Friends to make the score 6-1 at half-time. 

Gholami scored back-to-back goals in the 25th and 29th minute to cap off his hat-trick. Sehra scored in the 32nd minute to make it nine unanswered for GI and Friends with an original strike that was saved but the follow up was put into the net. Xia became the 3rd player to net multiple goals when he scored in the 32nd and 35th minute. The scoring display was put to an end with Khorshidi’s 3rd and 4th goals of the night. The final whistle blew with GI and Friends taking the 13-1 win.

This game was a gigantic morale booster for GI and Friends who have now won two consecutive games for the first time this season. With this win, they have created some breathing room between the 6th and 7th placed Average Joes and Blue Pandas. For Average Joes, this is yet another matchday with the same awful result. They need to get back on track before this season is lost for good.
