GI and Friends breeze past Unmeggable FC to move into 4th place
Following an upset win last week against FC Finesse, GI and Friends were in high spirits entering their game against Unmeggable FC. They had won two of their last three games and were looking to make it two wins in a row. The opposition, Unmeggable FC had lost two straight and were hoping to avoid getting into a landslide of defeats.
Without a minute played, GI and Friends had already started the press and forced Unmeggable FC into a mistake. A bad pass in Unmeggable’s half was intercepted by Dixon and the ball was swiftly placed past the keeper. After the opening goal, both teams had their chances but the shots were placed wide, saved by the keeper or blocked by a defender. In the 14th minute, Dixon scored his 2nd goal of the game after he got on the end of a cross at the back post to give GI and Friends the two goal advantage. From that point on, GI and Friends controlled the game on the attack for the remainder of the first half. In the 20th minute, their perseverance towards a 3rd goal paid off when Xia tripled the lead. Yet another Unmeggable FC mistake was punished after a defender was stripped by Dixon and the ball was passed to Xia who had a wide open net to shoot at. GI and Friends went into the half-time break leading 3-0.
Despite being shut out in the first half, Unmeggable FC began the first half on the front foot but their play dwindled once they reached the final third. In the 27th minute, Gnocato was found after he made a run into the Unmeggable FC half and he blasted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 4-0 in favour of GI and Friends. After every GI goal, Unmeggable FC had a chance to rebut but today wasn’t their day as they kept missing the target. GI and Friends scored their 5th goal in the 34th from Shah. His soft strike from just outside the box was calmly placed into the net. In the 37th minute, Unmeggable FC’s persistence finally paid off when they scored their first and only goal of the game. Aujla walked into the GI half and took a long strike to catch the keeper off guard while the ball trickled into the net. However, a minute later, GI and Friends scored their 6th goal after Gnocato’s 2nd strike from long range to cap the game off at 6-1.
After this win, GI and Friends are in the midst of a run of fantastic form. This win makes it two in a row and they have scored eight goals in their last two games. GI and Friends have passed Unmeggable FC in the standings and sit firmly in 4th place. Meanwhile for Unmeggable FC, they have lost three straight games and although they were short-handed for this game, this result puts them in a spot that may be hard to get out of.
