FC Silverbacks score five to clinch third place

Following the third place game, FC Silverbacks were victorious after defeating Burnaby Offside FC. These two teams finished the season on completely opposite sides of the standings, making the final game an interesting encounter.

During the season, these teams met thrice. The first was a blowout victory game for FC Silverbacks and the other two were comfortable wins for Burnaby Offside FC. They ended the season in the standings at 1st and 4th place. FC Silverbacks finished with seven wins and three losses while Burnaby Offside FC finished with six wins and four losses.

The game started out with chances for both teams but neither team could make them count until FC Silverbacks in the 11th minute. They forced Burnaby Offside FC into a costly turnover in their own half and quickly pounced on the ball with Kevin Lee finishing off the attack for the opening goal. The rest of the first half was tightly contested with neither team truly able to pull away. Into the break they went with FC Silverbacks leading 1-0.

At the half an hour mark, Burnaby Offside FC equalized but not in the traditional sense. The ball was sent into the box, bouncing off of the Silverbacks’ Justin Kang before awkwardly falling into his own net for an unfortunate equalizer. More time passed and still the teams were stuck at a deadlock.

In the 40th minute, FC Silverbacks finally put their foot on the gas, scoring three goals in four minutes. Michael Watson got the scoring started when he cut off a Burnaby Offside cross and darted towards goal before calmly slotting the ball home. To make up for his own goal, Kang followed up two minutes later with a goal of his own, this time in the right net. Burnaby Offside FC failed to close him down as he stood in front of the net unmarked before his high shot found the back of the net. In the 43rd minute, FC Silverbacks once again turned defense into offense and the ball was passed to Sabrina Lam who drilled the ball into the top corner of the net. The final touches on the game were from Ethan Lier in the 47th minute. He ran through multiple defenders and with ease put the ball through the goal.

After an exciting and hard fought season, FC Silverbacks wrapped up their campaign in third place. They provided the year with plenty of goals and excitement. Although they started to fade in the latter half of the season, they still ended the year in a respectable position.
