FC Finesse return to winning ways following 7-2 victory

GI and Friends were in the midst of some spectacular form. They had strung together three straight wins and moved into 3rd place, totalling 39 goals. Their opponent, Average Joes, were on the complete end of the spectrum. Although their attacking play had started to look better in recent games, they still hadn’t picked points in a while and only had 3 points to their name.

The beginning of the game was a stalemate as neither team were able to get any traction towards goal. Each piece of build-up play was brought to a halt before any danger arrived until the 7th minute. Dixon received a pass inside the penalty area, took a touch, spun and scored the game’s opening goal. GI and Friends doubled their lead in the 13th minute following some wonderful one-two play. From a throw-in, the ball was passed around with no player taking more than two touches until the ball was played across goal to Antao for the easy finish. GI and Friends kept the attack going and two minutes later their persistence once again paid off. An Average Joe attack was intercepted and the ball was played by the defense over the top to an open Chaal who made a run, took one touch and the ball fell into the bottom left corner. Two consecutive goals came in the 17th and 18th minute from Gholami and Antao. Another counter attack was the result of Gholami’s goal who was alone in front of goal and right from the restart, the ball was intercepted by GI and Friends and had practically an empty net to shoot at. However, GI and Friends’ first half scoring spree wasn’t over as Gholami scored his 2nd goal in three minutes following another 2 on 1 counter attack. GI and Friends led 6-0 at half-time.

To start the 2nd half, Average Joes calmed the game down and held off GI and Friends’ attack. It even resulted in a goal of their own. In the 30th minute, Lee followed up Sewak’s original strike that was fumbled by the keeper to get Average Joes their long awaited goal. Five minutes later, Chaal scored GI and Friend’s 7th goal after he beat the keeper at his near post with a soft strike. Average Joes came very close to getting their 2nd goal but were shut out after two great consecutive saves by Soares. GI and Friends finished off their scoring route in the 42nd minute. Chaal’s hat-trick came from a long strike that trickled its way past the keeper and into the net. The final score was 8-1 in favour of GI and Friends when the final whistle was blown.

With this win, once again GI and Friends were able to create some breathing room and move closer to solely securing 3rd place. During this four game win streak, they’ve beaten their opponents by an aggregate score of 20-4. Another week, same result for Average Joes. Again, their defense proves to be their downfall as they’ve suffered three consecutive defeats while allowing 8 or more goals.
