FC Finesse clinch 3rd place with win over Average Joes

FC Finesse have officially clinched 3rd place after defeating Average Joes in the final match week of the season. For a team that struggled with their form midseason, they finished in the spot where they spent the majority of the season.

Lotanna Agu, Odunayo Haruna, Jeremiah Chiedu, Alexander Afuberoh’s seven goals and Ekaose Nwadiani’s five goal second half display sealed the deal for FC Finesse in a dazzling final performance.

It took a mere four minutes for FC Finesse to get on the board from Agu’s close range strike. An original attack by Atolagbe was fumbled by the keeper and followed up by Agu into the net.

After holding off the FC Finesse charge for nine minutes, Average Joes escaped their half for a quick counter attack in the 13th minute. The ball was played to the left side where a wide open Avi was waiting and after taking a touch, blasted the ball into the top right corner.

Throughout the season, goals were hard to come by for Average Joes. Entering the final game of the season, they had scored a league-low 18 goals and allowed a league-high 131 goals. Scoring so early tonight was a step in the right direction, albeit too little too late.

Although the high for them was short lived as FC Finesse vetoed Average Joes’ scoring efforts three minutes later when they scored their 2nd goal. Odunayo Haruna dribbled through a defender before getting a clean look on goal and firing the ball fast and low into the left corner. The 2nd goal was immediately followed up with a 3rd a minute later by Jeremiah Chiedu. The ball was quickly played out of the Finesse half and a string of passes made its way to Chiedu five yards in front of the net. FC Finesse would score one more goal before half. Haruna’s 2nd goal would come from a counter attack and the ball was lowly played to him resulting in FC Finesse’s 4th goal of the game.

In the 2nd half, it was once again all FC Finesse on the attack but more specifically, Ekaose Nwadiani. He arrived in the 2nd half and scored five goals in 13 minutes. His first goal came in the 29th minute after a faint shot trickled its way past the keeper’s left post. Within four minutes of scoring his 1st goal, Nwadiani already had a hat-trick and even added two more goals in the subsequent minutes. No matter what the defense tried, they had no answer for him. He stretched the defense, dribbled through opponents and practically everything he touched turned into a goal. He put on a proper striker’s performance and increased the Finesse lead to 10-1.

FC Finesse’s finishing touches were applied by Alexander Afuberoh in the 44th minute. An unorthodox counter attack left FC Finesse with a four-on-one attack in Average Joes half. The ball found Afuberoh inside the penalty area who ball rolled the goalkeeper to seal the season for both teams.

After a nerve-racking portion of games in the middle of the season, FC Finesse put it all behind them as they finished the season comfortably in 3rd place. They end the year with 6 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw.

Unfortunately for Average Joes, they end the season in last place on the back end of 11 consecutive losses. They end the season with 1 win and 11 losses.
