Cuventus score nine in win over Twente Benson

After a significant rain delay, Cuventus and FC Twente Benson were back in action playing their week 5 matchup in week 7. Cuventus scored nine en route to a 9-3 win over Twente Benson. Will Condon and Damien Lacey combined for seven of the nine goals as Cuventus picked up their fourth victory of the season.

The game opened with a plethora of chances from both ends but before a goal could be scored, Jonathan Coffey was booked in the 1st minute, marking the game’s first imprint as a yellow card. Following the booking, FC Twente Benson were the ones to get on the scoresheet first in the 3rd minute when Michael Godley effortlessly let off a shot that fell right through the net. It did not take Cuventus long to answer back as they equalized just two minutes later. Following a throw-in, the ball trickled past a few legs before taking one bounce until Donal Fenton gently hit the ball on a volley and into the net.

Less than sixty seconds later, Will Condon doubled Cuventus’ goal scoring tally. The ball was sheepishly given away by Twente Benson which led to a Cuventus counter attack. The goalkeeper committed too far and Condon was waiting on the other side of the goal with a wide open goal in front of him. However, less than sixty seconds after Cuevntus took the lead, FC Twente Benson equalized after Ruairi Bradley got on the end of a shot that was saved but the rebound was tipped into the net. The opening flurry did not stop there as FC Twente Benson took the lead from Eyers in the 9th minute. He was the lone player in front of goal and steadily rolled the ball past the keeper and into the net.

After FC Twente Benson’s go ahead goal, there was a notable gap in between goals. Both teams continued to attack but neither could get their next goal until the 23rd and 24th minute when Cuventus recouped the lead. In the 23rd minute, Will Condon received the ball just outside the penalty area and put on a few pleasant dribbles to create space and score Cuventus’ third goal. One minute later, Damien Lacey intercepted a pass, leading to a one-on-one with the keeper which he cleanly slotted away. Cuventus’ latter dominance paid off as they went into half-time leading 4-3.

The second half would be more or less the same with Cuventus continuing to dominate as they scored all the second half goals. Damien Lacey opened the second half scoring as he pushed off multiple defenders to get a gentle shot off in the 29th minute. His goal was followed up by Condon’s third goal in the 30th minute with a run that put him mere yards away from goal which made putting the ball away an easy task. In the 34th minute, a shot was blasted off the crossbar and landed into the path of Condon where he chested the ball down and hit it first time for it to cleanly roll into the net for Condon’s fourth and the team’s seventh goal. In the 44th minute, Lacey joined Condon as the second player to score a hat-trick when he effortlessly dribbled into the net and easily placed the ball into the net. To cap off the scoring, Jason Bergin scored in the 48th minute with a quick counter attack that allowed him to enter the penalty area and have a free path to score. After seven consecutive goals, the final whistle was blown as Cuventus won 9-3.

After another dominant display, Cuventus gained their fourth win of the season to continue their run of great results. Once again, the team showed that they are one of the best teams –perhaps the best team– in the division. FC Twente Benson picked up a rare loss, moving their total to two on the season. They are a team capable of great results but this game was not their night.
