Chaal’s hat-trick leads GI and Friends past Average Joes

Following a 6-2 loss to Brazcouver last week which marked their 2nd consecutive loss, FC Finesse were eager to get back on the winning front. Unmeggable FC were coming off an 8-3 win and were looking to regain some of the same momentum they had earlier on in the season. The last time these two teams faced each other, they couldn’t be separated as both teams took home a point each in a 5-5 draw.

With the amount of attacking power in this game, it’s no surprise it only took five minutes for someone to get on the board. After Unmeggable FC worked their way into the FC Finesse half through some creative dribbling, the ball found Takahashi’s feet and he took a touch before placing the ball into the net. A flurry of chances for both teams came for the remainder of the first half while it took some time for another goal to come. The defending and goalkeeping picked up as neither team was clinical enough to score, sending balls high and wide of the net. Adeyemi came close in prime scoring position but the ball was blasted over the bar. In the 20th minute, FC Finesse put their misses behind them when the ball found Afuberoh and his off-balance shot beat the goalkeeper on his right side. Although it was a low scoring first half, it was filled with chances and excitement as the first half ended with each team getting on the board once.

FC Finesse immediately started the 2nd half on the attack and it paid off from #14’s strike to take the 2-1 lead. He found himself unmarked in front of goal and had the easy task of simply placing the ball into the net. Unmeggable FC tried to answer back following the goal which included a free kick chance but FC Finesse’s defending won out. In the 30th minute, FC Finesse doubled their lead after Afuberoh scored his 2nd goal of the game. He dribbled around two Unmeggable defenders to work the ball onto his left foot and into the net and in the 34th minute, he capped off his hat-trick. Unmeggable FC were left exposed at the back in the 38th minute when the ball was played to Adeyemi and he got away from his man to score FC Finesse’s 5th. Two minutes later, FC Finesse intercepted an Unmeggable FC attack and quickly turned into defense into offense on the counter attack, resulting in #14 being all alone in the final 3rd and blasting the ball through the net. Following a foul in the 43rd minute, Unmeggable FC quickly took the free kick to catch FC Finesse off guard. Cheung picked up the ball, put on a couple of moves to create space and scored Unmeggable’s 2nd and final goal of the game. However, the last scoring chance of the game came to Afuberoh. From a corner, he was found via a cross, unmarked at the back post to head in his 4th goal. The full time whistle was blown: Unmeggable FC 2-7 FC Finesse.

This was a confidence boosting win for FC Finesse as they put an end to a two game losing skid to solely move into 4th place while having played one less game than GI and Friends, the team ahead of them. After the 7 goals scored today, FC Finesse become the 4th team to score at least 50 goals this season. Unmeggable FC still find themselves chasing the teams ahead of them. Although a win next week could put them right back into contention.
