Brewventus and Mictlan FC split points in 5-5 draw

A tightly contested game between Mictlan FC and Brewventus saw the two sides share the points in a 5-5 draw on Friday night.

Entering action, Brewventus and Mictlan held the two bottom spots in the table with two of the worst records in the league. Mictlan recorded just three points and Brewventus were yet to register a point this season.

The activity in this game began as soon as the opening whistle was blown. After some solid attacks from Mictlan, Brewventus were the team to break the deadlock in the fourth minute. They escaped their half, with the ball finding Brandon Singh alone in the middle of the pitch. He was left unmarked and drilled a shot across the face of the goal to give his team an early 1-0 lead.

Luckily for Mictlan, Brewventus’ lead wouldn’t last long as an equalizer was found just one minute later. A long cross was sent towards goal and Norman Ayon got his head on it to guide the ball in the net for Mictlan’s first goal.

The goals kept coming as in the 8th minute Brewventus took back the lead. Mictlan were left scrambling while Brewventus got closer to the net, and Tanish Garg had a rebound into a wide open net. In the 23rd minutes, on the brink of half-time, Alejandro Gomez was left unmarked for Mictlan FC, which allowed him to let off a shot into the top right corner of the net for the equalizer. The two teams couldn’t be separated as they took a two goal draw into the break.

A lot of action came to begin the second half, but it was Brewventus scoring the first goal again. Brewventus applied pressure on Mictlan, forcing a turnover that led to a 2-on-1 break with Garg scoring for Brewventus to take a 3-2 lead in the 30th minute. More attack came for Brewventus in the following minutes, and they finally capitalized on one of their chances in the 41st minute. They escaped their half, despite some tight defending from Mictlan, and Singh was played through towards goal. From an impossibly tight angle, he somehow squeezed the ball past the goalkeeper to give Brewventus a two goal lead.

Mictlan were prepared to go down with a fight, scoring just one minute later. Edon Zherka was denied in front of goal at the first time of asking but followed up his own miss to score Mictlan’s third goal. However, they weren’t done just yet. In the blink of an eye, the game was tied. Mictlan made great use of the momentum as Zherka was back on the attack, firing the ball into the net to even the game at four goals.

The final minutes of this game was nonstop back-and-forth action on both ends of the field. In the 44th minute, Brewventus had a counter attack with Brandon Singh passing the ball across the goal for Jason Rai to tap it into the net to give Brewventus the late lead. However, that wouldn’t be the last goal of the game. Mictlan came right back on the attack, continuing the theme of “anything you can do, I can do better”. Mictlan dispelled an attack from Brewventus, leading to Ignacio Quijano to have a wide open net to tie the game. After an exciting ten goal affair, both teams settled for the point.

After picking up their first point of the season, Brewventus will see positives from this result. They had some great attacking play, but they will need to have a lot more defensive discipline if they want similar results in the future. With this draw, Mictlan picked up their fourth point of the season after some terrible previous results.
