Brazcouver snaps GI and Friends’ three game win streak

Brazcouver defeated GI and Friends 4-0 on Thursday night which not only meant Brazcouver achieved their 9th win of the season but also that GI and Friends’ three game win streak has come to a close.

Filipe Rech, Lucas Viana Monteiro and Cavalhieri all got on the scoresheet in the first half to secure the win for Brazcouver.

This victory wraps up the two-game season sweep for Brazcouver, having previously defeated GI and Friends in the first matchday 12-2. Perhaps an improvement for the latter team despite the loss. Rech, Viana Monteiro and Cavalhieri scored in the first matchup too.

Rech started off the scoring in the 5th minute. His original shot from outside the penalty box was blocked but the rebound fell back to him and was netted the second time around.

Rech’s goal marked Brazcouver’s 10th consecutive game of scoring at least one goal within the first five minutes of the game, a feat no other team has accomplished.

Viana Monteiro’s first goal came six minutes later. The ball was fumbled by Soares, resulting in the ball being brought out of the penalty area where the keeper could only kick it and Viana Monteiro pounced on the ball before the defense could react.

For the most part of the first half, GI and Friends could barely get out of their half or sustain any offensive momentum. A quick succession of two goals came in the 21st and 24th minute just before half-time from Rech and Viana Monteiro.

Rech made a run on the right side of the field and was left unmarked by the GI and Friends’ defense. He patiently waited and dribbled across the face of goal before the net was practically wide open to triple the lead. Viana Monteiro’s second goal was the result of a save made by Soares but the ball was pushed out into the path of Viana who, like Rech before him, had an open net to score into.

When the whistle blew to signify the end of the first half, it not only signified half-time but the end of the scoring too. No team scored in the second half but chances were still plenty.

Brazcouver had multiple opportunities to extend the lead but GI and Friends picked up their defense at Soares made some fantastic saves. On the other side, GI and Friends were able to get out of their half and have a few chances of their own but it didn’t result in anything productive. Just as the first half ended, the final score was 4-0.

This result makes for an interesting end to the season. Brazcouver continues their offensive momentum and pursuit of a first place finish as they sit one point behind Viet United. Meanwhile, although this result isn’t what GI and Friends were hoping for, they currently hold the upper hand as they sit in 3rd place, albeit having played one more game than 4th placed FC Finesse.
